Cylindrical Knot

Cylindrical Knot

Mathematicians like knots (not that kind of kinky stuff - well, maybe some of us do - but ahem…). Artists like sculpting. So… a mathematical atist who likes sculpting would also like knots. How do you sculpt or make a knot out of wood?

Rinus Roelofs did it. Today’s math-art is a piece called Cylindrical Knot. If you look at it, it looks like the wood has entangled itself to form knots. If you go to his site, however, you’ll see that this sculpture was made in pieces. But that doesn’t make it any less awesome. Sometimes Most of the time, its the illusion that makes the art.
