Elective Breast Augmentation Surgeries

Elective Breast Augmentation Surgeries

Size matters. Or rather, scale does.

Today’s math art is by Chris Jordan. And there isn’t much mathematics behind this one, just numbers and statistics. What you’re seeing is 32,000 Barbie dolls, which is the amount of elective breast augmentations (ahem - boob jobs) Americans undergo each month in 2006.

Yes, there are on average 32,000 boob jobs in America each bloody month. Heard the joke about the amount of money Americans spend on viagra and boob jobs vs the amount of money spent on research on Alzheimer’s?

Here is what it looks like in detail (Click on each to enlarge):

Chris Jordan does a lot of work that are in real-life scale. In fact, if you check out his works, you’d be awe’d by the scale of things. I especially like the smoking one.

Hat tip to Andrew Gelman.
