The Infinite Curl

The Infinite Curl

From the creator of Space Tunnel, comes yet another piece of masterly mathematical art! Please welcome The Infinite Curl!

You have to admit this picture looks rather bizzare and organic. But it’s none other than a simple Julia-set fractal. Cliff Pickover, the person who discovered Pickover Stalks in fractals, used the alternating black and white stripes to disorient the viewer, giving rise to what seems to be a bizzare and abstract art work.

The use of alternating black and white stripes has a profound disorienting effect on people. I once went to Wanaka, in New Zealand, and they had an upside-down house of sort, and it was painted just like this image in alternating colors. Needless of say, I was quite disoriented (and had to throw up, rather embarassingly).

I think I would print this out and hang it in my office. Yea, it makes good art for offices. Your boss’d come in and get all whoozy and not concentrate while you explain why you were late for work. LOL.
