Chaotic Symmetry

Chaotic Symmetry

They say, life is chaotic. And Chaos Theory says, you can find symmetry in chaos. Today’s Math Art is actually a symmetrical icon attractor. Professor Mike Field and Martin Golubitsky created a formula for Chaoscope to show that symmetry can exist in chaos, and how chaos can yield symmetry.

On Math-Art.net, you’ll be hearing quite a bit about Prof. Mike Field, and quite soon too. He’s also a mathematical artist, besides being a brilliant mathematician.

I like this picture. I thought kinda looked like Picasa’s icon (and I changed the colors to avoid being sued by Google). It feels like a piece of abstract art, but at the same time, it doesn’t feel very abstract. Maybe it’s the cyclical symmetry, or maybe it’s just the Chaos Theory speaking, eh?
