Even More Romanescos

Even More Romanescos

I seem to be on a vegetable binge these days. Yesterday, I introduced the romanesco as not only a nice vegetable to cook, but also very mathematical in nature.

Today, I still dwell on the romanesco. Prior to yesterday’s post, I had sent out emails asking friends and family and various other acquaintences for pictures of vegetables with a fractal index. And then I had received a link to John’s site. And so after asking for permissions and all the stuff, today’s math art is yet another romanesco broccoli.

These images were taken with a Nikon D70. And as you can quite easily see, the equiangular spiral pattern (try to spot two spirals going in opposite directions) is there, as is the fractal pattern. Ah, the wonders of math.
