Lotka-Volterra Fractal

Lotka-Volterra Fractal

A friend lent me a book on biology a few days ago when I asked her if her field of study (her field is in forest offsets) had any beautiful mathematical imagery. The book she lent me was Primer of Ecological Theory. And in it I found some pretty graphs, which I was sure I could make into a fractal.

And so I did a little research on the Lotka-Volterra competition model (I’m even worse in biology than in math), and I plotted this beautiful fractal using ChaosPro (I think UltraFractal would have been a better fractal program to plot this out, but I’m cheap, so I use freeware).

This picture makes me feel like I’m in a tunnel, with the white bar like the light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, it does feel a little alien and very organic - like the alien ship in Independence Day, eh? What do you think?
