A Rössler Attractor

A Rössler Attractor

And today’s math art image is a Rössler Attractor. This image was generated by Ramiro Alcocer, who wrote a C++ program to generate it. You can find the code here.

I find this image strangely peaceful, despite the fact that the Rössler Attractor is constantly used in chaos theory (as is the Lorenz Attractor). The ripple-like structure of the image gives a sense of calm, like ripples in a river of chaos, like something normal happening with a backdrop of utter chaos.

You can read more about the Rössler Attractor in Wikipedia.
